Belly Button Hernia

There are a number of muscles in abdominal region of the body which hold the abdominal contents in place. If one of those muscles becomes weak or develops a hole, intestines may push through the muscle near the belly button. If this occurs, it is called an Umbilical Hernia. This condition may cause a lump or bulge, pain, swelling and even burning in the area. In severe cases, the hernia can become "strangulated" and lead to an emergency situation. The person may have nausea, vomiting, severe pain and fever.
